According to a January 2024 ACS CAN Survivor Views Survey, 40% of cancer patients and survivors experience some degree of food or nutrition insecurity. The American Cancer Society’s Addressing Barriers to Care (ABC) grant program recently awarded over $500,000 to fund 13 community organizations providing services to address these issues. By supporting community organizations and their partners, we can work together to help address the barriers that impact a person’s ability to prevent, find, treat & survive cancer. Congratulations to the 2025 Addressing Barriers to Care grantees! - AMOR Healing Kitchen – Charleston, SC - Coalition for Food and Health Equity – Jersey City, NJ - Ellie Fund – Needham, MA - Food & Friends – Washington, DC - Food Outreach – St. Louis, MO - God’s Love We Deliver, Inc. – New York, NY - Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance – Philadelphia, PA - Moveable Feast, Inc. – Baltimore, MD - Pink Ribbon Good, Inc. – Dayton, OH - Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana – New Orleans, LA - The Ceres Community Project – Sebastopol, CA - The Heimerdinger Foundation – Nashville, TN - Vital Access Care Foundation – Fountain Valley, CA

“Reducing smoking through tobacco control has saved millions of lives and can save millions more in the future. But we need a stronger commitment at the local, state, and federal levels to help further reduce smoking and substantially augment the progress against smoking-related mortality." Social determinants of health are non-medical factors that influence health, the ability to function, risk for health problems, and quality of life. Where a person is born, where they work and socioeconomic conditions are all examples of these factors. The VOICES of Black Women Study, a landmark study led by the American Cancer Society, seeks to fill critical gaps in cancer research by addressing the unique health and social factors impacting Black women. CANCER, an international interdisciplinary journal of the American Cancer Society, Section Editor Dr. Camille Ragin of Fox Chase Cancer Center speaks with Dr. Lauren McCullough, one of the principal investigators of VOICES. Together, they explore the rationale behind the VOICES study and its potential to drive meaningful change in cancer prevention and care in the latest podcast episode of CANCER’s CancerSpeak: https://lnkd.in/eBaQEJc5
